Hire Dating App Developers: In-House, Freelance or Product Partner
The trade-offs between building a team, hiring freelancers and engaging a product company — with realistic timelines and costs for each route.
In-house
A capable in-house dating team is a product manager, a designer, two mobile engineers, a backend engineer and part-time data support. In the US that is a meaningful annual payroll before a line of code ships, plus three to six months of hiring.
It is the right answer when the app is the company and you are funded to run it for years. It is the wrong answer when you need to be in market this year.
Freelancers
Freelancers are excellent for a defined slice — an animation pass, a payments integration, a specific SDK. They are a poor fit for owning a two-sided product end to end, because nobody holds the architecture, the safety model or the release process when individuals rotate.
A product partner
A product company gives you strategy, design and engineering as one accountable unit, with the category patterns already solved. You trade some hourly cost for speed, coverage and delivery certainty — and you keep the option to hire in-house later against a codebase that is already documented and owned by you.
A realistic timeline
Discovery and prototype: three to five weeks. MVP to store: three to five months depending on matching and safety scope. First monetization experiments: two months after launch, once there is cohort data worth acting on.
